Clinical Notes is a client application whose main purpose is to view and modify clinical documents that comply with the HL7 CDA (Clinical Document Architecture) standard. The application can run stand-alone or as a plug-in for the Patient Chart application. Clinical Notes integrates with other applications (EVS Browser, Order/Results Service) and is designed to run on IBM PC-compatible workstations and on Tablet PCs.

Clinical Notes runs in three modes:

  • CDA document viewer - documents are validated, transformed and displayed in HTML format. A series of configurable plug-ins help present images in various graphic formats;
  • CDA document editor - it is used to create or modify an existing document. Clinical documents can be signed using a digital signature (X509 certificate, SmartCard etc.). If a clinical documents has been signed, it cannot be further modified. However, the user can create a new document to add information or to replace an existing document;
  • Template editor - every CDA document is created according to a template, whose structure is described using the ADL (Archetype Definition Language) standard. Every section can be entered as free text or as structured data using customized forms and coding systems (SNOMED, ICD-10, etc) drawn from the EVS Browser.
